In the effort to bring fresh blood into the Lebeau Library (new and old stories that you think should be archived here), I'd like to put out the idea that perhaps a few people could scout around in something of a recruitment drive.
If you're interested in helping, leave a comment, and let's discuss an approach.
In the very least, you could list off stories and authors, and some way of contacting them, and we can try to track them down if the work is good - asking if they would like to submit their work to the Library.
Thoughts? Volunteers?
-
I"ve done a lot of reading...Be happy to help bring in the fresh blood
-
Awesome. I'm just waiting on Neko to find the old submission guidelines so we have a list of criteria to ascribe to when finding stories (proper grammar, proper spelling, etc.)
But otherwise, I'd say feel free to get to work. Anything you find can be posted to this thread following "the usual" structure - and I'll get in touch with them:
Title:
Author:
Website:
Mail: (Absolute must that we have some way of contacting them.)
Universe:
Rating:
Pairings:
Spoilers:(If applicable)
Warnings: (If applicable)
Summary:
-
After the 13th, I promise. I found my list of recommended fics. *sighs & stabs textbooks with a spork*
-
Cooool. We're both in the same boat, I think. Just as long as the idea's out there and people are thinking about it, I think. It's a step in teh right direction.
One thing we ought to consider is keeping a list of who's on the roster for recruitment so there's no duplication of people being contacted.
...
Will work on that.
-
Ewww...work. No problemo...hehe...now I have an excuse to read fan fic.
-
What about unfinished works currently in the library? There are some awesome pieces there that are driving me crazy because the ending isn't there.
-
Have you found them finished elsewhere?
-
I haven't had time to look at all of them but Google only gives different Lebeau Library URLs for CrystalWren's "This Exquisite Dance" and this is killing me.
-
I will send another email to Karen, I am certain her back up is more current. And Lucia, lets just go with your guidelines, since I can't find that either and I don't want to hold the fanfic project up any longer than necessary.
Neko.

Title: Diamonds Etched in Blood
Author: Galaxia Alpha
Website: http://wolverineandjubilee.com/Archive.html
Mail: [email protected]
Universe: 616, post-Antartica
Rating: a mild PG-13 for violence
Pairings: Gambit/Rogue (mentioned but not a ship story; mainly gen)
Summary: After the events that led to Remy being abandoned in Antarctica, the thief tries to piece his life back together, but is interrupted by the kidnapping of an old teammate.
Author?s Notes: Diamonds Etched in Blood is part of a larger arc of stories that I am currently working on, all of which center of the X-Man, Gambit. This particular story is post-Antarctica. It takes place about 2 months after the Trial in the period of time following Operation Zero Tolerance. All of the X-Men are involved in this story, but the focus is Gambit and the other characters are used mostly to explore his character. This story starts with the assumption that Gambit does not realize that it was his self-hate that caused Rogue to leave him in Antarctica after she absorbed him with her powers. This story is NOT primarily a Gambit and Rogue story. Though the couple is addressed, the main focus is Gambit. I think that covers everything. If anybody has any questions, just ask!
Has sequels found in the same website:
Tears at the Crossroads -- After using his powers to defeat Sinister, Remy is left barely holding on to life... and possibly about to let go... Just to let you know, there is a sequel to the piece that I'm working on.
Futures in the Mist -- Mysteriously healed, Remy is called upon by New Son to do a job while he is secretly tormented by strange dreams of an unknown future.

Title: The Apologist
Author: Spawn of Bonehammer
Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3220884/1/
E-Mail: You have to be a fanfiction.net member to get to contact this person.
Universe:Comicverse.
Rating:T thru M.
Pairing: None.
Spoiler: Violence, harsh language.
Summery: The story takes place after XM #58 and UXM #340, so Gambit and Joseph had their catfight, Iceman is on leave and Xavier in the slammer, Bastion is preparing his move and Graydon Creed is being a dick. Although this piece was intended to fit as snug as possible into existing continuity, I took a few liberties with canon.
I took it easy with the accents, just because I'm sick of seeing my files filled with red angleworms crawling under every third line, and "Merkin (Louisiana)" is not on any Word pulldown list. Also, this is not my first language; I write in English to reach a wider audience. I plead you to point me in the direction of any blatant errors.
Foreword: This fic was born in the remote 2001 from a desire to make sense of a few botchered storylines from the 90's. Yet it took me a while to gather ideas and even longer to put them down on paper - and in the meanwhile, better writers had their say. Hence this story isn't going to be by any means original. Having said that, dim the lights, put on some background music, and let's begin.
Status:Unfinished, but it looks if the author hasn't abandoned it.

E-mail: I haven't been able to locate one, but have left a message for the author on the website that I found the story.? Hopefully they will reply about whether or not they'll allow this website to post the story.
Universe: Comicverse.
Rating: None was given.
Pairing: Remy/Jean.
Spoiler: None.
Summary: Haven't written comic fic in years. Used to write quite a bit and the last stuff I really concentrated on was called the Alchemy Arc which was set after Scott was 'killed' by Apocalypse. It paired up Remy and Jean, an odd pairing even for me but for some reason it worked. I drifted away from comics and have drifted back to see what's going on.
Imagine my surprise at the turn of events. But, oddly enough, it made me start thinking of that series I was writing and I felt the yen to write again. So here's what I've put together so far. This is Scott's POV. Hope you all enjoy it even if it's not going to result in Scott and Jean reuniting or anything.
It's all Marvel's. Not mine. And it's all for fun.
Status: Unfinished.
I'm sorry for not being able to provide e-mail addresses to contact the authors, but if some people here has a fanfiction.net account they'll be able to access them.? I'd be grateful if someone could do that for me since I'm not able too.?
I'll try and find more stories.
-
Hey,
I just recieved a reply from Dandeloin, author of the Alchemy Arc.
Here is what Dande wrote:
"I used to have quite a number of fics at the Gambil Guild so I have no issue
with Blind-Sided being posted there as well. The 1-3 actually stands on it's
own for now. At the moment, I consider it to be finished though that could
change if I get the yen. :)
Let me know if there's anything you need from me.
Dande"
-
Ok - can you guys make a big bold, multi-coloured note next to the stories where you've contacted the author. I was under the impression that I was going to wind up doing a mass-email, so if you're doing the footwork, MAKE A NOTE OF IT SO I DON'T DOUBLE UP.
(Yay capslock.)
More importantly, the objective is to have them post their work as opposed to us posting their work for them. The new Library is a step beyond the old archive system specifically for that purpose.
(So you can pass that tidbit on to Dandelion. Let her know there will be a review thread as well that she can subscribe to to keep tabs. If she says no, she doesn't want to do that but still wants to be archived, I'll assume you're willing to compile and post her stuff for her, yes?)
Lemme know.
Thx.
-
Okay. I didn't know that I had ask them to post it themselves. I will tell Dandelion about this and try to get in contact with the other writers.
If they don't want to post the stories themselves, how can I post it in the library? What is the process. I know where to find the stories but not how to set them up in the Library area. If you or anyone else could help I'd be grateful.
-
SBB is just finishing up the Adult side, and while there are some guidelines up, I'll see if I can't post a blow by blow How To. (I'm still trying to sort it out myself with multi chapters.)
Noted and will do though. :)

Don't worry, it's not abandoned. I occasionally get stuck with writing a chapter, but it's all AT LEAST drafted. If I may say so myself, it makes more sense than the original Zero Tolerance storyline...
-
It's a *fantastic* story! I'm loving every word of it. :)
-
Does any one know if the mods are still making a "how to " guide for posting fan fiction?
Osmalleus,
Thanks for not abandoning your story. If you would like to post your story in the fanfiction area go right ahead. The more stories the better. Oh, and welcome to the boards!

Tragic -
Yes! I am doing so, but it got put on the back burner. I'll try to get it together by this weekend.

I wanted to add something about Galaxia Alpha's Diamonds Arc. Maybe it's me, but the link Xenokattz provided, where the Diamond Arc stories are on, is not complete. The 3rd installment has only 11 chapters while I know, because I've been following this story for quite some years now, that it's finished and that she even started a 4th story. It can be found on her page at FanFiction.net

I hope this helps.

This is my first day but I'd love to help the cause, I just don't know the process of getting fanfiction... I could use a little advice...
-
Well, okay. Let's start with something pretty basic: where do you usually read fic?
-
Fanfiction.net mostly. I really don't know many other sites that have the same archive size.
-
there's a lady that goes by "Valerie" you should use her stories... lol.
-
My handle on Fanfiction.net is actually "Valerie J". I'm sure there's probably someone else out there posting as just plain Valerie ;D
Valerie
-
there's a lady that goes by "Valerie" you should use her stories... lol.
Hmm.... I think I've heard of her. I think her last name was Johnson, no eh... Jackson.... Eh..... Jones?
-
Okay, kids. To topic, please.
Edit: And before someone can say it: Valerie's already archived here. In fact, she archives herself. The point of this thread is to acknowledge and try to bring in new talent for the Library.
Kthx. Carry on.
-
I don't have much to give at the moment, but I have some things I want to point out.
For some really oldschool romy fanfiction, this arhive is really good at down home charm: http://tellingstories.net/rogue/
(sorry any romy-hater out there) >:D
In the library, bella bayards fanfic "Rogue's Gambit" doesn't have all the chapters. I know the fanfiction is in two versions, one with a (PG-13)
rationg, and a different one with (NC-17 Version) rating.
All the chapters to the (PG-13) can be found here: http://tellingstories.net/rogue/fanfic/cartoons/gambit/
The (NC-17)-version is almost impossible to find, I think maybe I have saved it on the computer.
I know bella bayard have changed her mail, but I ahven't had the time to try to find the new one.
Same thing with "Free for a Second" by Vicki Lew and Caroline Dillon, all the chapters aren't there in the library.
The chapters can be found here: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/86992/southernefx
Seven Sunningdale x-men evolution fanfic "Giddy" and "Love of my life" is one of the most popular on fanfiction.net, it would be intresting to have it on the library...to contact the auther or see the stories, you can find it here: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/332046/Seven_Sunningdale
And speaking about Valerie Jones, I think you missed a spot :-) I found this fanfic on the net a long time ago and when I searched about really old fanfiction ::), If it's a work of valerie, then you can always ask her ^^''
Cold Fire
by Valerie Jones
#It was long after midnight
#When we got to unconditional love
#She said sure, my heart is boundless
#But don't push my limits too far
Jean wasn't sure where the music was coming from, but the words
drifted out of the darkness like an echo of the discord that filled her
mind. She knew she shouldn't be listening in, but she found it
almost impossible to shut the strident voices out. They
reverberated through her thoughts, eliciting sympathetic pangs for
the suffering of her friends.
"How long y' gon' play dese games, chere?"
"Ya think this is a *game*?"
"Ain't it?"
"Ya tried ta kiss me, and you're accusing *me* of playin' games?
We've been through this one before, Remy! You can't touch me
an' ah can't touch you. That's nevah gonna change."
Sadly, Jean thought of the Z'Noxx filter mounted in a chamber
beneath the mansion, and wondered if Rogue realized what she was
saying.
"Maybe so, Rogue. Y' know dat don' matter ta me."
"Then how come ya tried ta kiss me? Huh? Tell me that."
"Guess I must jus' be a fool, chere. I thought y' might want t' be
kissed."
Jean closed her eyes and pressed her palms against her temples.
The mournful music continued, drifting in with the breeze that
ruffled her bedroom curtains. Needing reassurance, she reached
over to touch her sleeping husband's back. His warm skin was
comforting beneath her fingertips.
#I said if love is so transcendant
#I don't understand these boundaries
#She said just don't disappoint me-
#You know how complex women are
#I'll be around
#If you don't let me down
#Too far
"That's not *fair*, Remy! You can't expect me ta deal with this all
the time! It's not possible for us. Why can't ya just accept that?"
"Because we can *find* a way!"
"Why don't ya can the `love conquers all' crap! You keep sayin'
that, but ah haven't heard ya jumpin' at the chance ta explain about
Seattle, now have ah?"
"Dis got not'ing t' do wit' Seattle."
"This has everything ta do with Seattle!"
"No, chere. Dis about you tryin' t' put limits on our relationship."
"*Ah'm* just tryin' ta be honest. You're the one that's still lyin',
Remy. An' ah'm just not sure how much longer ah can live like
this."
#It was just before sunrise
#When we started on traditional roles
#She said sure, I'll be your partner
#But don't make too many demands
Jean looked over at her husband's still form. In the pre-dawn
dimness, she could barely make out the line of his face in profile
and she smiled. That was one of the things she treasured so much
about their marriage. They were partners, no matter what roles
they were called on to play. Tonight, she was so grateful for that
bond that she wanted to cry. The tears welled in her eyes as the
music played on.
#I said if love has these conditions
#I don't understand those songs you love
#She said this is not a love song
#This isn't fantasy-land
#I'll be around
#If you don't push me down
#Too far
"What happened t' all dat y' said before about not'ing bein' able t'
change how y' feel about me?"
"Nothin' that ya did in the past *can* change how ah feel. But how
do ya think it makes me feel when ya won't talk ta me?"
"Rogue, I'll tell y' absolutely anyt'ing y' wan' know `bout de past."
"You. . . will?"
"Jus' take off y' gloves."
"No! How could ya even suggest such a thing?!"
"It's de only condition I got. Y' wan' know about my past, fine.
I'll be happy t' tell y'. But it's got t' be dis way."
"Why? Because ya have some romantic notion of us sharin' our
souls or somethin'? Well, ya can forget that! I'd be sharin' your
soul all right, an' you'd be a vegetable! This ain't a fairytale."
#Don't go too far-
#The phosphorescent wave on a tropical sea
#Is a cold fire
"But maybe it can be a fairytale, neh? If y' wan' it to."
#Don't cross the line-
#The pattern of moonlight on the bedroom floor
#Is a cold fire
"Oh, no. Ah've been down this road before, an' it doesn't lead ta
anythin' but a heartache. Ah'm not gonna do this ta mahself
again."
#Don't let me down-
#The flame at the heart of a pawnbroker's diamond
#Is a cold fire
"If y' won' take de risk, chere, how are y' ever gon' know what y'
coulda had?"
#Don't break the spell-
#The look in your eyes as you head for the door
#Is a cold fire
"This ain't gettin' us anywhere. Ah'm goin' ta bed. It's late."
"So y' jus' gon' walk away?"
"Ah have ta get up early, sugah. We can talk more tomorrow."
#Love is blind if you are gentle
"We c'n talk more tonight, too, chere. Dere's not'ing we can't
work out."
"Goodnight, Remy."
#Love can turn to a long, cold burn
The last note faded away as Scott stirred. He turned his head to
look at Jean.
"Honey, are you all right?"
She could only shake her head as the sobs she'd been holding back
burst forth. Without another word, Scott slid over to her and
gathered her up in his arms. He held her tightly, stroking her hair.
"What's wrong?"
Jean wrapped her arms more tightly around his neck. "Just hold
me, Scott. Just. . . touch me."
The End
happy easter everyone!

Aaaaaaaaugh! No! Let it die!
My one and only foray into the world of song fics... I can't believe anyone still has a copy of that :-X
Valerie
-
*chuckles* Aww poor Val.
But to get back on topic. I actually searched all the links I kept for the longest time for fanfic and I guess its not surprising that a large number of them no longer work or they aren't keeping up with it.
It feels like its fallen down or something. Only fanfic dot net seems to have survived. I don't read enough fanfic to help scout beyond ff.net.
Hopefully those who are really into reading will find more.
Neko
-
For neko and any out there searching for old fanfic on sites etc that has closed, use this site http://web.archive.org/collections/web/advanced.html
Works wonders to show sites that stopped to exist years ago...but sometimes is doesn?t work because of the coding of the site :/
Btw, that?s how I found "Cold Fire" ;D...sorry val if that was a painful sight :/ ...but it really good compared to my attempt to write fanfic years ago (I was a pokemon fan back then, thank god it's on swedish and noone of you will ever be able read it, mohahaha!)

ERgh I suck! I will get through all the stuff on my computer someday and someday soon! I've sorted through the finished pieces but some of the stuff I archived as unfinished keeps popping up on fanfiction.net, which is great.
The trouble is that writers don't reply. I don't know what to make of that, do you think it's going to their junk mail or do they ignore it or what? Because if it were saying the mailbox didn't exist then I'd search for new addresses. It's almost impossible though, I mean people completely change their names for no good reason.
Anyway, if I didn't use my mailbox for years, hotmail would shut it down right? That's why I'm wondering why I don't get a reply at all. Any ideas? So far I have inspired 2 people to post their stuff, 2! Poxy! Apocalypsy! One of them was going to do it anyway and I'm not sure whether or not the other has! Anyway it's been a long time since I tried, but it's been a year I really needed to be in the real world for. Next year I'm doing my final year at uni so I'll be locked in my room the whole time - definitely time to go on the old LBL trail. And this summer. In theory I have two months to start revision for my final year. I.e. two months to stay indoors and research my little butt off!
I think it's a REALLY good idea to note who we've e-mailed requests to, is there any way of making a thread for that instead of making people search through this one? I'll fetch my list from somewhere, although I know for a fact that most of it is in another country right now... damn paper lists...

I only have up to Chapter 7, same as the LBL, sorry. And I got that in December '01, so no updates since then as far as I know! I loved it too, but luckily it's not such a big niggler for me, not like Blind Sight and Faith and Dreams anyway.
-
Adult? Blow by blow? ;)
I'm full of fantastic puns. Revel in them.
...
Back to topic: These are great suggestions. The question remains, who wants to proposition these authors? Who wants to make first contact and invite them to post? Hmm?
(Bueller?)
-
I have an on-topic question... (I need a *handraised* smiled)
I have a couple of stories on my hard drive that people wrote for the Betrayal Arc universe. "Father's Day" by Carol Galonis and the incomplete "Homecoming" by Morgan Lewis. I had permission from them back when to archive the stories wherever Betrayal was archived. Is that sufficient? I don't know how to contact either of them any more.
Valerie
-
I think permission to archive is sufficient (assuming you've got that in writing somewhere.)
-
LOL, that was 3 email addresses, 2 physical addresses and 2 laptops ago. I no longer have those emails.
Valerie
-
I will say .. that you were given permission and if for some odd reason someone contacts us, we will remove as requested.
I think it would be wonderful additions. ;)
N
-
Back to topic: These are great suggestions. The question remains, who wants to proposition these authors? Who wants to make first contact and invite them to post? Hmm?
(Bueller?)
What's Bueller? Oh, Ferris? I never saw that. It's on my imaginary list that will never be completed nor remembered. I'm sure you all have them.
Well the idea was that a topic could be created on the fanfic board and that people could note the names of contacted authors as they go along. If they requested that only certain stories be posted, we could follow the name with the fic in brackets. E.g.
LA
Lucia de'Medici
Valerie Jones (Blind Sight).
It's not perfect but I think it would be easier than scrawling our way through the whole fanfic scouts wanted thread searching for names.
Or perhaps it should be more organised and look a little like the review board; organised alphabetically that is.
Should the authors' contact addresses also be included?
Just brainstorming here. If this is a bad idea, I would gladly take on the task of contacting authors on behalf of the Guild. It's the least I could do after all these years of sitting on my bum writing bad fanfics and smut and reading the delights of others
Yours to command as you please :smitten:
-
I don't think putting authors' contact here on the forum is a good idea. It'll probably only cause them spam. Maybe just give it to the ones (by PM) that want to contact them.
-
Hi
Lucia, I was just wondering if a child board could be created called "fanfic scouts" or something. Then in that, it could look like the "Guild Authors" board and have writers listed by name. Under which, we could write details of whether this author has been contacted, which addresses are dead, which stories we have a right to archive from particular authors, if we have the right to archive any story by this author etc.
Alternatively, on the Child Board we could just post topics with the authors name, but it would have to be ordered alphabetically, dont know if that's possible. This seems like the least complicated way of doing it.
We could keep it in the current "Guild Authors" section, but it might get a bit messy and I don't know how it works, whether or not we can add an author previously unpublished without adding an actual story.
Let me know what you think
x
-
I don't know if this archive is still being maintained, but if you are interested I have a collection of Romy fics that I copied into document files years ago that are likely otherwise lost at this point. (Some I did this with almost 15 years ago. ) I have left author names/info in place when it was possible so if you would like them I could send your way and you can see if the authors can be reached.
-
We don't maintain the archive here ... however, we do have it at fanfiction.net. Though, I'm toying with the idea of replicating it at AO3.
Anyway - I think the romys would love to read your fics.

Its been a long time so if you wanted to just post via a thread, I think it would be fun.
