Now, that is what one would have had expected for Remy and Rogue. Be together... married with children. I liked the names CC chose too.
Did you like that long story arc? What did you think of the end result. Gotta admit, Sinister posing as Rogue as stabbing her was not what I was expecting. But the kissing scene was another amazing Romy moment.
Anyway, not to dwell on the the negative in the book (Rogue's death). This series could certainly spawn some fun fanfic, don't you think?

I never really considered the double-death of Rogue and Gambit in "The End" to be negative, actually. It's a tragic end, but Remy's choice and his last declaration before sacrificing himself, that, "This is for Rogue" is just soooooo beautifully resonant. I always interpreted that as a measure of the depths of their love. (And, in some ways, it parallels the "Vargas Incident" in XXM.) There's never really been an endpoint for them, and in "The End" especially, we see just how far Remy would go for her.

Agree with Lucia, Gambit and Rogue both had two of the more heroic deaths in the series. Wasn't sold on Oliver for the boy's name- just doesn't feel like one they'd choose, but Rebecca for a daughter, definitely! I think Gambit and Rogue would have been the ones with four kids, not Scott and Emma. But the way Gambit and Rogue were written in the series was the most "in character" we've seen in a LONG time. Certainly what's come since hasn't made a lick of sense. Hopefully once Carey leaves they'll get a writer who knows how to write Gambit and Rogue

Yeah, kinda reminds me of Thelma and Louise (one of my all-time favorite movies) but when I tell people I loved the ending, they look at me kinda funny, lol. That's what the sitch in X-Men: The End sorta reminds me of. I love tragic endings when done right, and this (Remy and Rogue in The End) just feels right....

I really dug X-Men: The End. I liked that Remy was Sinister's son, and all that too. It was also one of the best recent portrayals of Gambit and Rogue together.

I agree with the comments that Gambit and Rogue came off quite well in The End and I sort of expect a bit of tragic ending for them but with a legacy of children to carry on. Because of Rogue's powers too many people write her as outliving the X-Men and I just don't see it. That Rogue died prior to Gambit actually worked in the context of the story for me much better than the reverse.
I think The End as a story has some pacing and story issues but Gambit and Rogue's and the outer space group with Phoenix's parts came off really well.

Traditionally, the greatest love stories had one or both lovers die.
If only they would im,plement certain parts of this in the main universe...

Can you back that statement up? Sounds rather subjective to me. I'll remain dubious unless you've got a source that proves romantic tragedy is the "greatest type of love story."

I'm tired so I won't give a big long statement or search for a college papper I did my first semester, but I didn't mean the best love stories had one of the lovers or both die. The greatest, as in best well known and longest lasting, love stories have one or both lovers die. It's just the formula I guess. Romeo and Juliet is the best example as well as Layla and Majnun, Titantic, Brave Heart, A Walk To Remember, Moulin Rouge, and just about anything written by Edgar Allen Poe that has a beutiful women in it . Death of a loved one dosn't mean they don't come back... or at least try like in the case of Orpheus and Eurydice. When Orpheus abruptly dies on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey through the underworld and he makes a deal with the lord of the underworld, I forget what, and he can bring her back on the condition that he travel this long stair case back to the service without looking back at her. Of couarse he looks back at her and loses her.

And he got the chance to save her because he had touched Hades with his music. If you looking for more tragic love stories there are also Wuthering Heights, The End of Affair, musical West side Story (based on Romeo and Juliet), movie Love Story.

Tristan and Isodle is a tragic love story... and Macbeth has one. Hell, you can even find one in Hamlet! -Nicole

I would never call MacBeth a tragic love story. That was a story about power not love. Hamlet with the Hamlet/Ophelia thing certainly. Othello was another Shakespearean love-tragedy.

Okay I mixed up the names big woop. My point remains valid, the greatest love stories one or both lovers die. Can anyone here argue that the Rogue and Remy relationship was not great? Badly written and illogical at time but never the less great. Hell, the longest relationship in the x-men, Scott and jean, has had Scott die once and Jean has died more times then I can count.
