So ... if you've read the latest issue of Xmen Legacy ... Rogue can control her powers.

What do you think it means for the character?  What do you hope for her?  What would you like to see?  And we all can collectively say, its about time. LOL

Personally, I have to admit that I'm not really a Rogue fan, so I'm taking a wait and see approach to this. I'm still trying to catch up on a lot of the comic issues I've missed and I don't think anything has changed significantly for Rogue. It would largely depend upon the writers, but I'm not particularly hopeful that anything would change for her, despite this recent development.

What does concern me more is what this new development would mean for Remy. There has been so much discussion about the way these two characters support each other. But, sadly, I don't see it that way. From my POV, Remy's development into a potentially strong character is being inhibited, perhaps even being strangled, by sticking to the ROMY pairing. It's Rogue who's growing as a character at the expense of Remy.

If there's anyone who deserves his rightful turn in the spotlight in a major plotline, it would definitely be Remy.

I have to agree. I used to like Rogue, I'm hoping this change will help her regain her old personality and lose the whining.

My big hope for her is that this allows her to move forward and grow. To me she's remained stuck along with her powers for this long. Now that she's gotten a new lease on things, in a healthy way, one hopes that she can grow with it and be a lot happier in general. Smiley

I have a very serious worry that rather than having her grow as a character they are going to have her and Gambit on a team doing the whole "I'm not ready to be in a relationship" song-and-dance in place of the "we can't touch" stick and they both are going to fall into the old predictable patterns.

What else in the city of love...? (ROMY water)

« Reply #6 on: July 14, 2009, 03:25:29 PM »

Yeah I really REAAAALLY don't want to see the 'I'm not ready for a relationship dance'. On the other hand, the woman has A LOT going on right now and controlling her newly reset powers should be first on the list whilst slowly working things out with Gambit. I think he clearly want to be with her otherwise he would have left by now or stated otherwise. She's the one calling the shots in my view, as per. I think she needs to declare herself more clearly and soon, otherwise we'll know it's the same old. I want to see a 'I love you and I want to be with you but I'm not sure I'm happy with what you did so let's talk about the past and the future' sort of speech. Just so we know they're both on the same page and that it's not 'hmmmmmmmmm... do I want you around? Hang on, I'm not decided yet.... no one else has come along yet... actually I don't want you bye!' or a 'let's stay friends' situation.

The idea of Gambit and Rogue being 'just friends' makes me sick. It would never work! People downplay their feelings for one another but they have been 'together' for a loooooooong time now and Gambit has 'waited' for her and stayed celibate (it seems), you don't do that lightly.

I  want so badly to see a movie to bring this love story between Remy & Rogue to life...I do not care if it is a X-Men movie or Origins movie or what have you...How long have we been wanting to see the pair up close and personal?
I am drooling just thinking of it. Romance, passion, adventure , and action....woo hoo! lol Who agrees?

I think it would work great on film. No long drawn out contiuity to get in the way. And movie Rogue needs someone to help her toughten up soem (ok, a lot!) and she reallys needs a new boyfriend after Bobby kept making eyes at Kitty during the whole third movie.  Grin

Bobby was so into Kitty. Sad You could totally tell...and what about Pyro? I thought he kind of liked her... yeah she needs to toughen up. Azn Not nearly as tom-boy as she needs to be. What if Anna Paquinn can't play Rogue this time around? Very disappointing. idiot2 I would just like the thought of a movie and some serious action/romance. smitten The story could draw from the actual comics right? Cheesy

I dont think that would work for them too. I think he would be mad at her for all those years of cold showers (and the water bill). But I dont think it would work.

I agree. I would pay good money to see that...I think Marvel should do a mini series on the romance part of the comic...it would please me.  smitten

Agreed.  It would be totally ridiculous if they didn't get together.
But I think at this point in time she isn't going to end up with anyone.  I know in the solicit they were hinting at Rogue and Magneto but in the last issue of legacy Rogue thwarted an attempt made by Magneto saying that she hasn't forgiven him for killing the last time they were together, sorry the deatils of that are sketchy in my mind, someone can fill in the blanks.

More importantly which has developed in the last two or so issues of legacy is the revival of Death. Much to my dismay I really do believe that they're going to use this as yet another road block in their relationship *sigh*

I hope they resolve this soon, it won't be plausible if they don't resolve it soon.

It kind of seems impossible for them not to get together after she brought him back from the brink of death and all. I think its fine that she showed a need for space after gaining control of her power. But after this long and with her being exclusive to remy (by choice) when she lost her powers the last couple times or so, if it doesn't happen, then the writer is being a pig.

HA! well put. I definitely agree with all of that. Including the pig part. But ya know, with how things were laid out in 231, I'm thinking one of a few things could be the reason for the mags cover (which, btw, in the back of Nation X 2, they show it and at the top it says "Passion Revisited" and I wanted to barf).

1. Proteus possessess her like he has Blindfold and makes her do it because Mags is powerful and would make a good ally for him.
2. They have flashbacks of the relationship but she says "no stfu and go away"
3. She's gone insane and Mike Carey is a pig who really doesn't know how to write Rogue and has been good at bsing his way through writing her.

Guess we'll find out in a couple weeks...

Ah good, I'm not the only one who reacted that way, as soon as I saw that I refused to buy any issue with that promo in it.  Here's the thing:

1) There was never any "passion" between Rogue and Magneto, he was a domineering alpha male who guilted a teenage Rogue (who she saw as her father- double gross implications there) into marrying him and having a kid even though she and Gambit loved each other (and had real passion, and still did ,when they met after she had the kid with Magneto) in the AOA  and basically kicked Gambit out because Rogue loved Gambit and he couldn't get the teen girl with Gambit there.   In the Savage Land again he was a domineering alpha male who basically obsessed with his vengeance, she basically just tagged along because he saved her life but she was weak and powerless- once she got her powers and backbone back he wasn't  interested in her anymore and as I said all along he was more interested in vengeance than anything else, and he killed someone in front of Rogue.  That basically killed the tiny attraction she had to him (when she was grateful for him saving her life and she was weak and helpless)  for good.

3) He's 60+ years older than her and acts that way.  I thought of the perfect refutation of their glamorizing of what's an male fantasy- old dude with hot young chick.  To that promo they use- caption it: "The Marvel Fantasy"  then beside it have a picture of Anna Nicole Smith kissing Howard Marshall ( same age difference by the way)   and caption it: "The Reality"  Grin
