Astonishing X-Men
« on: June 19, 2017, 02:30:54 PM »
Page from Astonishing X-Men #2

So far art for issue 1 and 2 looks great. It actually may work really good if every issue will be more or less self contained story with different style then set up stories with 1 culmination issue for arc.

That means, Marvel isn't committing to the title. That is too bad, on the other hand, it will be hard to tell how well this book will due based on interviews. Now, that is known its in its own "island" as it were. People might pass on it.

I did like Gambit's costume but wth ... a scarf?

Tough to have an ongoing with a new artist writing every single issue. I think we all knew this one would have a limited shelf life. Especially with how Soule describes the story.

Honestly, I'm not mad about it. We're going to get 12 quality issues with a solid story and no fillers. It actually makes it easier for me to buy.

I like art but I don't trust Soule.
Also it seems that he will kill off someone again. Like Wolverine, Cyke and Madrox wasn't enough for him.

Here we go again. Gambit wasn't able to steal what he was going to steal in Luvre - And why the hell he is bringing dice with him?

Purp - I just copied and pasted your comment. I don't know why the post was doing whatever it was ... I'm guessing I did what you thought you wanted to do.

As to your comment. Yes, I'm tired of screw up Gambit.

On the plus side: Psylocke's butterflies found the nearest X-Men who could help. Gambit and Fantomex are in the same place and they found Gambit instead of her former lover Fantomex. Fantomex is considered inferior to her and likely not an X-Man while Gambit is.

More on the negative side: Gambit likely tells Fantomex what's up and brings him along. It's Gambit's fault we have to suffer Fantomex in this book.

On the cute, but ruined side: Gambit and Psylocke have a matching body suit and scarf/sash combo, but her jacket matches Fantomex.

Does Gambit really screw up another thieving job again? Isn't he supposed to be one of the greatest thieves in the world? It would be nice if they could write him that way from time to time. >:(

It's like somewhere over the last ten years or so, they morphed Gambit in to a screw-up. That was never who he was. He was someone who would get himself into deep s*** but he could always pull himself out of it.

You aren't the only one. I'm not sure what to think .. especially based on interviews.
