I don't know what to think about this. The Avengers movies could be such a mess with too many characters to handle properly. And if it's a lacking portrayal in a lackluster film it could kill the momentum for Gambit going forward. Similar to X-Men Origins Wolverine. I don't have a lot of hope for these Avengers movies. But we'll see.

Just got around to reading Uncanny X-Men #6... That had to be one of the most incoherent things I've read in a long while. Gambit's heart to heart with the girl was touching, kinda. But I think it could have been better. He spoke about his eyes like he constantly hid them from people when I can't remember him not showing them off unless he's under cover. Just think the conversation could have gone to "pride" and less "acceptance". Just going with his personality. I think endearing himself to her arrogance may have been more fulfilling. Just my opinion... Well off to read the read #7. Wish me luck.

Update: they printed my fan mail... Wish the book held up.

Rogue being flung vagina-first at the first male that pops up on her radar isn't how I'd define "romance," but Marvel must be using a different dictionary than me.- NicoPony

In case I don't see you guys for obvious reasons, Merry Christmas to all of  you.

Simone is really bad writing Gambit and I think she really doesn't get him aside from "hot dude that totally loves m-- erm-- Rogue".

To me, the worst offender is Rogue being surprised that Gambit is good at talking with others, specially kids, and not knowing why. It was already a mess when it wasn't him who stepped forward to take the kids under their care. I am terrified of the things she's gonna write for his past.

I can't remember a time when Gambit was ashamed of his eyes and I DO NOT like the fact that they are trying to make that a thing. Believe it or not, all minorities don't grow up feeling ashamed and less-than. One of the most interesting things about Gambit is that he is a mutant and is proud of it. He had grown up in NOLA with a loving non-mutant family and even had a girlfriend/wife who wasn't a mutant. His being a mutant was never much of an issue for him. His identity as a thief was more critical in his social environment.

I might be misremembering, but Gambit didn't even know he was a mutant until he developed his powers. And to be fair, we know so little of him, we don't know if his eyes are a mutation. Sure, many of the guilds probably thought he was a weirdo, but they also likely thought he was the devil, not a mutant. When Gambit was a teen, people still knew little about mutants in general. So, any kind of discrimination he got was not because of him being a mutant.

Heh, considering Bella was yelling Rogue she was a "muttie", she probably never saw Gambit as one.

If I remember, there was an issue of his first solo, Nicieza wrote it where the Antiquary who is religious found Gambit at the hospital and took him from the mother who didn't really care all that much about him due to his eye color. As far as I know, he's always had red and black eyes.

Jean-Luc rescued him from the 'old man' and there was weirdness going on.  JL adopted him as his own son, he took off the streets when he knew he could with out Antiquary knowing. He was part of the guild but feared.

There was some odd story somewhere, where his mother is the 'black womb' and Sinister messed with his dna and somehow added Cyclops dna to Gambit making them brothers. Most ignore that and should. LOL.

JL stole him for the antiquary and then got second thoughts bc he was weird and gave him bad vibes.

But I'm sure I remember Gambit telling someone something like "I might be a mutant" when he was a teen with powers. So, before that, there was no association between his eyes and being a mutant.

Making Gambit suddenly self conscious about his eyes- which most have always complimented - would be abysmally stupid.
