Was Belle nice to Remy or was she actually manipulative to him?
ie actually wanting to marry him for his powers

whoa, this is tough because I won't wiki. She did love Remy in their youth. There is a book of them being sweet under a tree on a lawn. I think the leaders of the clans wanted them to be married to end the feud.

There is one book where Belle was involved with a guy who was a knock-off to Gambit, I think his name was Bandit. 

IMV - she always loved him. He had to move on for political reasons.

She did love him. In her crazy ways, she's been more loyal to him than Rogue.

The question is, did he love her or was just hormones + puppy love + sense of familiarity? He willingly cheated on her only months before their wedding and I doubt it was the only time. When he bought that house, he never mentioned "to settle down with Bella Dona". If he bought it after he left, he was very much ready to move on from her.

I think they've cared for each other deeply since their childhood. But I do think Belle loved Gambit more than he loved her.

well in the cartoon.. Gambit said he has never said it "but Gambit love you"

In the show they weren't married either.

I was re-reading some 90s issues and at some point, Gambit tells Scott (when he's helping him to move out the school) that he was forced to marry his "best friend" and it's not the same as what Scott and Jean had. So, that pretty much explains that in his mind, it's not a husband/wife type of love.
