New Year and hopefully a new take and better love for Gambit. He's the main man as always.

The preview for the What If issue is up.

I think it looks good. I am more excited about this issue then I have been for issues since back when Dark X-men debuted.

Not sure I love this. Wouldn't Galactus just take back the powers he granted? Thought we'd see Gambit being Galactus' herald, not running from him. Still, I'm interested to see where this is going.

"Gambit knows about remaining true to a woman he can never touch (until very recently),"

Not even in alternative universes he can escape this.

It sounds interesting, but also sounds like written by someone who read the wiki entry and said "yeah, he's all about playing cards and being in love with Rogue". They can't move away from this.

Jesus Christ this is AWFUL! I mean, I know it's a What-If? and the stpory has to move at a rapid pace, but, this feels like it was written by a 12 year old on his/her first attempt at fan fiction.

Yes, the giving and not returning part is a bit of a mystery. But according to my knowledge Galactus would have to be near Remy to take back his power. In fact he really needs to be able to hold him. Other means of returning the power, like forcibly removing it with an eyeblast(probably more like burning him out), will deplet galactus own energy by a large degree. It's just not worth it. That's why he uses his machines to transform him, or his palms when it came to Norrin Radd(who was cannocly his first herald until the retcons started). Even above that Galactus would rather retun Remy, scold him into servitude,or try to brainwash him. But he prefers them to serve willingly as they then can be more of use to him. As a moral compass, as a voice of reason, as just company.

Although this takes place before Gambit joined the X-Men, I had no doubts he and Rogue would cross paths. Yeah, looks rushed and apparently immature.

ETA: Reading the whole thing, it doesn’t say they’ll meet. But I still think they will.

I just want Gambit to kick ass and do some James Bond s***. Should have asked that during my NYE wishes.

If only my friend, if only. I’ve been asking for that every NY since I came back in 2018.

Still Gambit’s best entrance in my opinion.
