So, anyone here watch Invincible? Gambit and Rex are very similar characters (Rex was based on Gambit), same powers and all. After the last two episodes of the show, it's clear which of the two characters was treated with actual respect.

wow ... almost an hour in length? That is one helleva rant. I didn't get past the 'love' part for the character. *chuckles* I'll skip through, only way I can deal with TLDR type stuff.

Thanks for sharing Toadman005.

In general, I don't think Rogue was handled well in X-men 97 and in fact I didn't finish the series but that said, Rogneto was horrible and I don't even dislike that pairing, it's done poorly. Gambit was portrayed poorly as well in the series.

Is what it is, I guess.  :crazy2:

I don't feel like Rogue has been portrayed well since the 90's with a few exceptions like when she was on a team with Iceman under Mike Carey. Once they started monkeying with her powers and making her a team leader they really messed her up. Super-strength and flight but unable to touch people, a powerhouse but really vulnerable inside. They took away everything that made her...her.

I haven't yet seen that video, but I've seen others with similar themes.

There are two different things here:

1. Rogue being badly portrayed
2. Rogue being bad(ly written) and portrayed as she is.

97 is a mix of both. She'd badly portrayed, but the portrayal is the same she's been since late 2000. So, in relation of Gambit, she's been portrayed exactly as she is and a lot of people are mad at this. She did ditch Gambit for Magneto and he became Death. If anything, they gave Gambit a more better explanation for why this happened. Considering Demayo wanted to marry them at the end, that's a bit of an improvement from all the things she made him go through during their on and off times.

More than Gambit being badly portrayed, is that the people around was written with the intention of s***ting on him without him deserving it. Which is also how's he's been in recent comics. Show Gambit is also quite different from Comic Gambit.

This show failed successfully somehow.

So, anyone here watch Invincible? Gambit and Rex are very similar characters (Rex was based on Gambit), same powers and all. After the last two episodes of the show, it's clear which of the two characters was treated with actual respect.

Now I'm interested.

I think the creator of that video would do well here...save maybe take issue with the Rogue hate, but be sympathetic to it, as she clearly cares a great deal about Gambit.

She destroys the series for all the reasons we did. DeMayo being a creep, using her as a prop or act of conquest, her lack of logic or continuity to both the 92 series and her core values, her swapping sides illogically - twice - and without ramification/consequence, how she is selfish and stupid, how they s*** on Gambit, the dress, the grooming, the erasure of her friendship with Storm, etc etc etc

If we're honest, Rogue's been more destroyed than Gambit. Gambit wasn't that bad. His plot was. The plot was there to make him a victim of two selfish idiots because they needed us to feel bad when he died. But he's been really not as ooc as he's meant to be in that continuity. I'd say he's acting more mature than he was in the 92 series.  Here, he walked away from a bad situation without yelling or being violent. He did the same when he broke up with Bella in Xternally Yours. Despite she tried to kill his brother, he just left. In both situations, what he said "you won't be dragging me into your self destruction". That is good.

Rogue got the worst aspects of hers adapted as if they were positive things.

Yeah, fans seem to be divided on that scene. Some see it as gambit giving up his balls and allowing himself to be cucked. Others saw it as him being mature, the bigger man/person, keeping his anger in check. I fall in the later. Even the infamous dancing scene where he walks away, I mean, what was he supposed to do, throw a charged card at them, starting a fight in the middle of a high profile gala?

TVA, no spoilers: they go to NOLA.

This is a good artist for Gambit.

Agreed. He looks like a man, not a Forever 21 model.

It's Pere Perez from Rogue and Gambit's first mini. Yeah, I love his Gambit, the draws a handsome, masculine Gambit, not a cute teenager.

Today's TVA wasn't bad, at least the first half, before Gambit disappeared. Nice to see him use his staff, although the characters' going to NO meant nothing. Art was the best part.

His Gambit here looks better than in R&G, tbh. It's being seven years though.

I wouldn't mind this style for future G stories.

Unsurprisingly bad.

I get being teased by older boys, but getting his ass kicked? No way. Even as a boy, Gambit was already agile, sneaky and smart, he had been trained his whole life. He wouldn't wear glasses to hide his eyes either.

So Gambit has a debt from when he was a little boy being bullied? Right. Not a bit surprised this was the best overrated Simone could come up with. Argh.

This preview made me angry!
I don't understand how they choose a writer who doesn't make an effort to understand Gambit to write about his past!
But nothing surprising, he’s been mischaracterized in almost every moment so far!
