Chapter 1

"Ah hope Ah ain't makin' a big mistake." The X-Man known as Rogue muttered to herself as she stood in front of a beautiful New Orleans mansion.

Rogue had come here, to New Orleans, to find the man she loved. Remy LeBeau, the X-man formally known as Gambit…and the man she had left to die in the Antarctic almost two years before. It had taken her this long to dredge up the nerve to ask his forgiveness, and to perhaps get back what they had once had.

The southern woman took a deep breath and lifted her hand to knock on the beautiful red wood door. Her hand stopped not two centimeters from the door. Biting her lip, she put her hand down and took a deep breath. After several more seconds, she lifted her hand again and knocked softly.

For a long minute she couldn't hear anything, and realized that he may not be home. Please let him be here, she prayed silently. She doubted that she would have the nerve to come back.

Suddenly, she heard the distinct sound of footsteps. Catching her breath, Rogue pulled a beautiful smile onto her face for the man she loved, and who loved her back and would never leave her…

"Yes?" A young man with eerie red on black eyes asked as he opened the door.

"Remy!" Rogue cried as she flung herself into his arms.

"Uh…Rogue?" Remy LeBeau asked, his eyes wide. He pulled away from the exuberant southern woman quickly and asked "What you doin' here?"

"Ah…Ah came to see you." Rogue smiled brightly, here eyes glowing.

"Oh…why?" Remy asked, his face showing his confusion.

"Because…well…" Rogue started fidgeting under his intense gaze.

"Ah, where are my manners! Come in, mon amie!" Remy cried waving a hand.

Rogue smiled softly at him as she stepped into the beautiful mansion. Looking around, she found herself standing in a huge hallway, with a staircase at the end. The room was furnished in several beautiful colors, and there was several plants scattered about.

"Dis way." Remy said, leading her into a den of some sort. There were several chairs, a love seat, and two couches all done in the same dark gray material. The windows were wide and let in a great deal of sunlight, and, like the hallway, there were a great deal of plants about.

"Sit, sit." Remy said, waving his hand at the assorted chairs and couches. Rogue smiled at him, and sat down on the love seat. She scooted over so that he could sit next to her, but to her surprise, he sat down on one of the couches on the other side of the room.

"So…how t'ings been since I left de X-Men?" Remy asked, leaning back in his seat.

"Well…um, not really much. We have several new members, um, Maggot, Dr. Cecilia Reyes and Marrow." Rogue started, fidgeting again.

"Marrow? De same Marrow that Stormy killed?" Remy sat forward, his eyes glowing slightly.

"Yeah, actually. Ah never did get how she came back…something about havin' two hearts or sumthin'." Rogue said, shaking her head in confusion.

Gambit looked at her in confusion and just shrugged. "Ah, c'est la vive, huh, Rogue?"

"Yeah, sugah. Anyway, Cyke and Jean left a little while later and…" Rogue said.

"Wait, den who leading the team?" Remy interrupted.

"Well, believe it or not, Kurt." Rogue smiled.

"Nightcrawler?" Remy asked. "I thought he was wit' Excaliber."

"Well, he was, but Excaliber disbanded, so he, along with Kitty, Piotr and Kitty's boyfriend Pete Wisdom joined up. Oh, and Piotr brought his fiancée Kit Braddock with him." Rogue explained.

" 'Braddock'?" Remy asked, lifting an eyebrow.

"Yep, she's Betsy's little sister. She's not a mutant, so she's really not on the team, but she been a big help. And she's a real good cook." Rogue grinned.

Remy laughed at that and then looked to Rogue to continue. Rogue thought for a minute before continuing.

"Well, let's see. Oh, Meltdown, ya know, from X-Force? Well, she joined the X-Men. She and Sam are getting' married here in a little bit." Rogue said, shaking her head. "Oh, and you're invited, of course."

"Why dey getting' married so young?" Remy asked, rubbing his chin. "Isn't she like 19 or somethin?"

"She's pregnant!" Rogue explained, a glint in her eye.

"Mon Dieu!" Remy cried, his own eyes glowing.

"Ah know. Just not somethin' you'd expect from Sammy." Rogue agreed.

They sat in silence for awhile, Remy mulling over all this new information, Rogue steeling herself up for her next question.

"Remy?" Rogue asked, shifting uncomfortable.

"Yeah?" Remy asked, looking up at her. She smiled prettily, and smoothed her skirt.

"Do you think there's a chance--" Rogue began, but was cut off the opening and closing of a door.

"Remy, I'm home!" A throaty female voice called. Remy, shot to his feet, and practically ran to the front door. Rogue looked at him in surprise and chased after him

"Ma belle!" Rogue heard him cry, just as she was pushing the door to the hallway open.

Rogue found herself staring at Remy with his arms around a tall black woman with snow-white hair. She stood staring as they kissed each other like they hadn't seen each other in decades. After they had stopped, the woman in Remy's arms turned to face Rogue.

Rogue knew she should have realized who it was. How many black women with snow-white hair are there in the world? But it didn't sink in as to whom Remy had called 'ma belle' until she turned to face Rogue.

Ororo Munroe stood smiling at her, her left hand resting lightly on her extremely pregnant belly. A band of white gold gleamed on her ring finger. Rogue looked quickly to Remy's left hand and saw a twin band of gold encircling his finger.

"Rogue! What are you doing here?" Ororo asked kindly, her lips pulled into a pleasant smile.

"Ah…y'all…y'all are married?" Rogue asked. She had to know, had to hear it from their lips.

"Oui. For a year and a half now." Remy's smile could rival the sun. "Our little girl is due in May."

"He means our SON is due in May." Ororo looked up at her husband with pure love in her eyes.

"Ya mean our daughter."

"It is a boy, Remy."

"I don' t'ink so, Stormy."

Rogue smiled shakily as the couple argued good-naturedly about the sex of their unborn child. Things were beginning to fall into place. All the plants. Remy asking about who led the team. He knew that it wasn't Storm.

"Well, Ah think I best be movin' on." Rogue said, before the tears began to slip down her face. All her dreams had been crushed to dust.

"Oh, must you?" Ororo asked, turning from her argument with her husband.

"Yes...Ah'm sorry." Rogue's smile and apology were forced.

"You must come to see us again." Ororo said. "Especially if you have more time to spend."

"Well, Ah just might do that." Rogue lied. "Ah really have ta be movin' on." And with that, the southern woman left the beautiful mansion and flew away.

"Remy, my love…what was that all about?" Ororo asked her husband.

"No tellin', ma belle. You hungry?" Remy asked.

"I am eating for two, my husband. I am always hungry." Ororo reminded him, laughing softly. The two walked through their home hand in hand, all thoughts of Rogue and the X-Men gone. And they rejoiced in their happiness.
