Title: Secret Wars: Battle World
Post by: DonPriceTag on January 24, 2015, 11:33:46 PM
(http://www.comicbookcrusaders.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Secret-Wars-Battleworld-Map-Revealed1.jpg)

http://marvel.com/comics/events/323/secret_wars_2015         <------------ Interactive version of the above map, to be updated every week or so.

So Secret Wars is the story of Battleworld (what a name...). As we knew, a bunch of realities and franchises are being smashed together and forced to do battle. Even the Marvel Zombie universe and the 1960s Marvel are t excluded. Popular opinion says they will be fighting for the right to exist. Aka Marvel's version of a New 52. They say its not a reboot, but a company wide retooling... So reboot.

Seeing all these realities battle it out sounds fun... And expensive. I might try my best to follow it. But I will tell you guys, I'm not buying ##$# leading up to it. They've made their entire current crop of stories obsolete and pointless. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of folk start getting killed off. So much for canceling FF and Wolverine being dead. Why are they even launching new titles like Antman and Uncanny Inhumans?

Press conference states that the current creators may continue to write their characters but not necessarily in the same books... Different aspects from different parts of Marvel franchises will be merged to make this new reality All-New Marvel. Not sure how feel about this. If it came from a pure place that wasn't being controlled by Disney, I'd be cool, but there's an agenda that's been building since the purchase.

I see Squirrel Girl having an ongoing, Howard the Duck in X-Men books, mutants being watered down, and a more movieverse friendly Avengers ruling all. Check out the map, tell me what you guys think

Kind of reminds me of that Champions thing they do along time ago.  But I suspect its a reboot to their universe.  Change some things around I suppose for more control of their property.

I might try and issue or two.  But the real issue to me is ... is AvX all over again.  Only nuance is everything in their line is involved - and its been noted will probably retool the line.

Guess we'll see.  I would imagine Xmen '92 is there for some reason or is that just some random book.

As for Squirrel Girl and Howard the Duck, whatever.  I don't see either going past 12 issues.  But I could be wrong.

I'm starting to get a bit alarmed. The way this article is set up, its leading me to believe that there will be an "Inferno" book when this starts... So are you tell me that each zone on this map will have its own dedicated book?!

If anyone has questions about how this came to be... dont ask. Watch the video series from Comic's Explained. He does a great job of making sense of all the nonsense.

So some important information;
-The end of the Marvel multiverse is caused by the colliding of worlds (two world's of different universes)
-Worlds are colliding due to "incursions" or disruptions in the space time continuum
-Ultimately it was discovered that these incursions were intentionally being caused by single person. This person was a complete mystery to those trying to stop the destruction until after months and issues worth of storylines it was found to be Dr Doom (616), hoping to use the resulting energies for his own
-He achieved this by killing off the Molecule Man of different realities (apparently he was a dimensional constant in the multiverse, the result of an experiment by the Beyonders, whom were also hunting Doom)
-The world (Earth or any planet experiencing an incursion, but I think only Earth's are) can be spared from destruction by destroying the opposing realities planet of the same name. If the opposing planet is destroyed, both universes are spared destruction with only one planet being sacrificed (Namely Earth).
-the earths in question are 616 (main Marvel) and the Ultimate universe. One is not destroyed, and both earth's and the remainder of the Marvel multiverse are wiped from existence.
-due to the construction of a "life raft" by Reed Richards, close to a dozen 616 characters survive the end including; Reed, Black Panther, Spiderman, Captain Marvel, Star Lord, Cyclops, and Thor (female).

Feel free to add and elaborate!

I read the spoilers for this yesterday.  So basically almost every character you've loved is now dead, and all their past experiences and story lines are gone?  That's a lot of story to just erase.  I wonder what new Gambit we'll get if any.  From X-men '92 most likely.  Unless you guys think that they'll just take this opportunity to get rid of the character?

If everything is for nothing and they are going to return the universe to its former state, characters and all, then its pointless. This whole thing is pointless. The biggest issue folk are bringing up is that they effectively ended the Marvel multiverse. If it's a temporary matter, then its a waste of time, spineless cash grab.

no marvel event in recent years has had any meaning or effect, House of M its fixed now, Civil War um what ever happened to that act, Secrete Invasion and Seige were bot nothing events as was Fear Itself, AVX,Age of Ultron, Infinity War was it?..the one where Thanos was looking for his son or something ,Original Sin ,Axis all a waste of time and money, World War Hulk was fun and no one died and it didnt "shake up the MU" i wish they would stop with these events and concentrate on characters and stroylines, rather than setting up the next event every 6-12 months. funny when i was trying to think of all the events i forgot half of them, im sure ive left out one, not counting the self contained events btw

wow, haven't been around for a long time- have no idea what marvel's newest 'event' even means. Does that mean that evrything that happened in the 616 up until this event started never existed?

Anyway, that's a cute cover but I think it's another artist (Scottie doesn't really draw Gambit, at least not that I know of), it's Ramos (he signed it at the right there). Cute though :)

It's Skottie Young taking older covers and putting the little xmen in them.  So, no - not original art but Skottie taking previous work and doing a rendering.  :)

edit:
I thought only Young did this stuff, whoopsy on my part.  Ramos does the young ones well.

Gambit appears as wallpaper as we have seen in the previews for secrete wars journal, the book is stupid, the mutants are slaves in Egypt as we know, Moon Knight is trying to help them he lost his fait, he meets a small group, Logan, Colossus, Kitty and Nightcrawler,  they are attacked by werewolves, Kurt is killed, the God Khonshu appears and spares them, they leave bearing her mark and return to the rest of the mutants where they turn in Werewolves and attack, Gambit may have been killed by Logan of just Wounded the arts not great

I suppose so, though allegedly allot of characters are suppose to be killed off in this event. Still, Gambit making an offer for saving him and MODOK .. didn't even bother.  "You are in killville", wholla dead.  Gambit won't be the only killed in this series but ... I'm not wasting any time on it now.

As for Secret War Journals - each issue is a one shot in the series.  Not a bad idea.

there will be something im sure, interests will be peaked and sales will be good for a while and then spiral downwards, the new 52 proved popular at first but now DC are no better than they were before same will happen to Marvel

As whacky of an idea this Secret Wars event was in my opinion, I have to hand it to Hickman, much like Infinity, he's doing a helluva job telling an epic level story. Even just reading the main SW title, I'm understanding most of the background... Other than why Namor is running with Thanos that is.

I can't for the life of me understand why Marvel us allowing Hickman to leave to DC after this event. He's done a bang up job making Marvel interesting outside of the X-Men, because until about 2008, that was a rare thing. SW was another great issue. But there is still a lot of mystery left in the story. Like how were Doom
Quote
and Strange the only ones left
after the end and how did Doom ascend to goddom.

Have to admit when they said the final incursion happened a mere 8 years ago, I laughed. It was on its own panel like it was supposed to be dramatic.

Hickman's not going to DC after Secret Wars. He's just taking a break from Marvel for a few months. He has no pitches on anyone's desk and no editors are calling and begging him to write anything. He's just stepping back and making sure his creator owned stuff is as good as it can be.

Who knows, come NYCC 2016 we may hear him be announced for Uncanny X-Men.

Really? That's awesome... Because one of the YouTube channels I watch (can't remember which) implied he was on his way to DC. I'm glad he's not, but I don't look forward to the power vacuum his absence will create.

I may have forgotten to get scans.  Give me a few, I'll modify this post.   :)

There is a few pages of a story with Lady Katherine of Bishop, and its in this book because I don't know and its continued in some other book. I'm not going to spend time on that part.

Secret War Journal #1
"We Worship What We Don't Understand"
Rosenberg
Pizzari
Beredo

Egyptia is the place in Battleworld.  The Xmen are slaves to Khonshu - Khonshu is one of the Gods of Celestial Heliopolis - Marvel wiki - I note this because I had no clue.

Colossus says its time to break free from being enslaved. Wolverine, Kitty, Nightcrawler and Colossus are walking to the Khonshu's place - (at night which apparently isn't a wise decision).

Wolverine has info from Moon Knight/Spector on how to get closer to Khonshu. Moon Knights are her guard and Spector is no longer one of the guard.  Spector betrays them, he turns into a Man Wolf (the coughing and holding either your head or tummy indicators that person is changing). They get bitten. Khonshu shows up.

Khonshu confronts the group and they tell Khonshu they don't want to be made to worship or be slaves.

Nightcrawler died in the man wolf attack, but Colossus, Kitty and Wolverine go back to where the rebel slaves are and all three have a crescent moon on right side of their face. The rebels recognize Khonshu's mark, and its not a good thing. Colossus, Kitty and Wolverine tell the group they would not have survived if not for Khonshu.

Colossus, Kitty and Wolverine tell the rebel group that there is no difference between slaves and lords to Khonshu, that they are given the gift of being allowed to offer greatness in her honor.

Angel argues that Khonshu wouldn't save anyone and is not some merciful God. Wolverine says Khonshu did save them, he begins coughing, Kitty is holding her head. They turn into wolves and bite everyone in the rebellion.

No problem.  Glad you reminded me.  I have noticed Kitty is getting allot of play too.  She's seems to be in several of the battleworld stuff.  Must be the new favorite.

new? she has been a constant favorite for a very long time, from Claremont to Wheadon to Bendis is the past few years, she is everywhere its annoying lol

From today's X-Po (6/9/15)
Quote
Additionally, nx01a has a straightforward question about the future tone of the X-Men line.

The X-franchise seems to be without any real direction or defining ethos at the moment. How would you sum up what the direction of the X-franchise will be going forward?

Paniccia: nx01a! That's not nice! Take that first statement back! The X-world is a very rich and complex land. Sometimes you need a little distance from something to see it better and I think once you look back you'll see defining moments and ethos. As for where it's going, you'll get massive doses of ethos. So much you will wish you never asked for it!

Christina Harrington: For me, the X-franchise has always been about the characters -- the many, many characters. Seeing the ways in which new authors and artists have built on the relationships between these characters, and the ways in which these characters have grown and evolved over the years, is one of the most satisfying parts of being a long-term X-Men fan. This is an opportunity to shake things up, and to continue the growth of this complicated family of characters.

Is there an answer in there? ... somewhere??  LOL

um im a bit confused with the whole 616 and Ultimate Universe surviving because in SW1 everything died, and in SW3 some of the survivors are with Stephen Strange, and the continuety with 616 Tony Stark is off, Didnt he and Cap die? and isn't he a Superior Dick.....this is confusing

Well Secret Wars #4 was completely amazing. I'll even go as far as quoting Gui and calling it the "the bomb.com". Hickman is the man.

Someone dies. Won't ruin it. Kind of glad too.

Yeah I am not reading this stuff. Just throw some spoilers up and say who died please.

EDIT - Nevermind, found it on CBR.  It was Cyclops and Dr. Strange for anyone else that cares but is not reading it.

You think? I think it's typical Hickman. The only thing that's bugging me is the lack of direct information. They're telling us what's going on, but not exactly how it all came about.

Its just taking forever to tell something that can be done in one issue, 1 sets up the world which is fine but 2,3 and 4 are so drawn out im losing interest, even the fights arent great the deaths are not shocking and Thors are cannon fodder, its a bit of a cluster, with the lack of direct information it should be called the pronoun game instead of secrete wars, just get on with it Hickman youve built the world and now its time to get stuff done, frickin reboot mechanic

LOL pronoun game. You got me there. But to be fair, IMO I wasn't expecting even this much enjoyment out of the story. The ONLY reason I'm reading is because its a Hickman story. After Infinity, for all its pomp, I became a fan of his writings. What saddens me is the fall line up following the story. I'm not looking forward to ANYTHING coming out of Marvel, especially the X-Men franchise.

i found it very hard to follow all his avengers stuff, and with all the recent crossovers im just negative to it all, i enjoyed the first issue but God Doom is too much, even if he did kill a character that has need to be offed for some time now its all rinse and repeat

the tie in issues to this even are pointless, some of them will be ongoings but i cant see them lasting a few so far ended with everyone dieing so the whole journey is pointless and contributes to nothing, i know it suck that theres a lack of Gambit but considering the stuff thats being put out we should be thankful, he had a good showing as the collector so its the small things
