Interesting things stated in the article.
I do think streaming services is filling a void.
It's the same things people have been complaining about since forever. Too many action movies, too much Sci-Fi, a few years back it was 'every TV show has vampires in it now'... When I was a kid you had
three TV networks and PBS, Basic Cable was
all reruns, Premium Cable was
just movies and the closest thing to streaming was
renting movies on VHS
from a brink-and-mortar store. Oh, and you had a
handful of movies released a year(before direct -to-video became a thing) that would stay in theaters for several months to over a year in some cases.
There is a wealth of opportunity for both creators and consumers the likes of which could not even be imagined just a few years ago. There is also a lot of competition. People are choosing to go see things in theaters that look especially good on the big screen. Big action, immersive special effects, sprawling period dramas...
I'm pretty sure those Nicholas Sparks movies are in the same general vein as Meg Ryan's romcoms, so it's not like
nothing of that sort is still being made, it's just probably not being offered to Aniston.
My 2 cents.
